Terms of Use

Last updated 11 October 2026

Jamaica in Photos is free to explore. These terms explain what you may do with the site, its photos and its API.

1. About these terms

Jamaica in Photos (“the site”) is run by Oren Thomas (“we”, “us”). By using the site or its API you agree to these terms. We may update them from time to time; the date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version.

2. The photos are protected by copyright

Every photo on the site is © Oren Thomas unless it is credited to someone else, and all rights are reserved. You are welcome to view the photos here and to share links to their pages.

Without a written licence from us, you may not:

  • download, copy, screenshot or otherwise save a photo to reuse it;
  • publish a photo on another website, app, social media account, in print or in any product;
  • remove, crop out or obscure the watermark or copyright notice;
  • use the photos to train, test or prompt artificial intelligence or machine-learning systems.

Measures such as watermarks and disabled right-clicking are there to protect the photos; please don’t try to get around them.

3. Licences and prints

Photos can be licensed for personal, editorial or commercial use, and many are available as prints. Each licence comes with its own terms, which apply alongside these. Ask about licensing.

4. Acceptable use

When using the site, please don’t:

  • scrape or bulk-download content (use the API instead);
  • get around rate limits, access controls or other protections;
  • try to disrupt, overload or break into the site or its services;
  • use the site for anything unlawful, or to mislead others about who took a photo.

5. The public API

The public API provides information about the photos (titles, places, dates and links) for use in your own apps and maps.

  • The API gives you data and links, not a licence to the images. Republishing the photos themselves still needs a licence (see section 2).
  • When you show data from the API, credit “Jamaica in Photos” and link to the photo’s page.
  • Rate limits apply, and we may change the API or its limits.

6. Maps and other content

Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors (opens in a new tab) (ODbL), with tiles from Protomaps (opens in a new tab). Parish boundaries come from geoBoundaries (opens in a new tab) (CC BY-SA 2.0). Species names and classification come from the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy (opens in a new tab) (CC BY 4.0). These remain under their own licences.

7. Accuracy

We place each photo and date it as accurately as we can, but locations, dates and descriptions may not always be exact. The site is provided “as is”, without guarantees that it will always be available or error-free.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or the API, or from relying on its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica, and the courts of Jamaica will hear any dispute about them.
